Though these verses are not found in every translation they are not less scriptural than others. They have been added to help us understand the closing of the Gospel of Mark verses 9-20.

Monday - Verses 9-11 - The Rabboni Story - John 20:11-18
In our Mark 16:14 passage we see that Jesus rebuked the disciples for not believe He had risen from the time they were told by the women. Mary had seen Jesus with her own eyes...alive...thinking He was the gardener, yet when told she made her way to the disciples to relay the happenings. But they believed her to be overly distraught and were not convinced of the empty tomb and the resurrection of Jesus. It was man's facts over Divine truth.

Tuesday - Verses 12-13 - The Emmaus Walk - Luke 24:13-35
In the passage in Mark it lets us know that Jesus appeared to two in the country and we connect that to the story of the Emmaus walk. It is a short journey from Jerusalem to Emmaus and while two of the disciples were walking along at a loss for understanding the whys of Jesus' death; He come to them and makes the journey revealing the truth of why things had happened to fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament. As they arrive to the house in Emmaus, Jesus reveals Himself through the prayer and the breaking of bread. The two return to tell the others but there again is a lack of belief.

Wednesday - Verses 14-15 - Revealed by Touch - Luke 24:36-49
Here we see how the story of the disciple's first visitation of the Lord brought about a fear of seeing a ghost and how Jesus offered them to touch Him and see that he was flesh and blood. He went so far as to join them in their meal eating as they would eat and 'showing Himself to be alive.

Thursday - Verses 14-16 - Authority and Commission - Matthew 28:16-20
Here we see how Jesus gives them the instructions and the power to accomplish exactly what He had trained them for in the past three or so years. They were to carry on the work that He, Himself had started and they were to use the power that He was giving them to make the message clear and receivable to everyone. We are still carrying out that mission today as His Church.

Friday - Verses 17-18 - Signs and Wonders - Acts
In the scripture from the Gospel of Mark, we see a fascinating list of signs that would be a part of the evidence that the disciples continued work was from God. From the day of Pentecost to the voyages of Paul when the viper came out of the fire biting his hand and Paul just shakes it off, these signs were to give testimony to the truth of what they were preaching and teaching from town to town, country to country. They were able to do the things that Jesus did and more through His power given them.

Saturday - Verses 189-20 - The Ascension - Acts 1:9-11 Here the Gospel of Mark shares with us the closing out of the earthly ministry of Jesus (directly) and the opening of the days when the disciples would be following His orders, His commission. The power of the Lord was heard in the message the disciples shared and the wonder of Jesus' works was seen in the ministry of the disciples as His Spirit led them. And "to God be the glory great things He has done."

DIGGING DEEPER STUDY GUIDE SHEET FOR OCTOBER 21-26 FOLLOWING THE MESSAGE OF Mark 16:14 -16

Monday - Gospel Universal - Luke 24:47 Jesus shared with the disciples that after His ascension that the good news of salvation would be a message to be shared with all. Jesus said that the truth of repentance and forgiveness, the reconciling work of man to God, would be shared in His name, the name of Jesus to all nations of the world. That work is still being carried out to this day and is our responsibility as we follow Christ as His disciples. The Great Commission was to have no omissions in who should receive the good news. It was to begin at Jerusalem and go out in all directions from there.

Tuesday - God's Messengers - Matthew 22:3-10 In this parable of Jesus, we come to understand that if we are a servant of Jesus we are called to go to those who have been called to the banquet to come. Even though some refused and made excuse the king wanted his servant to invite and bring in all so that his banquet hall could be filled. As servants of the King we are to invite all to hear and share in the good news of the gospel and let the King be the judge of who stays and who is put out. We are called to share the message.

Wednesday - Preaching - Luke 9:2 As divine messengers, we are sent out by Christ, just like the disciples were, to preach the message that Jesus, Himself preached. "The kingdom of God is at hand" and we are to help in bringing a healing to the sick. We are to speak and work to relieve the stresses of life that touch the soul and the body. The Word that we are to share is acknowledging our dependency upon God to help get us through each day. To share how we need to renew that relationship and fellowship with the Creator and Sustainer of life.

Thursday - Missions - Luke 24:48 To truly take the role of witness we must be willing to tell what we know. Jesus shared with the disciples the simple message of the gospel to share with all those who would listen in all nations of the world. That commission given is our mission and purpose where He would lead us to go. Some of us may not travel around the world but our witness may influence those who will. We have been given a mission a purpose in life to be the disciple of the Living Lord.

Friday - Baptism - John 3:5 The good news is a message that links the belief of the heart with and action of man and a cleansing from God. One of the ways to acknowledge what God has done in our lives is the act of baptism in or with water. Water baptism is an outward sign of an inner faith that tells people that we have had our sins forgiven, washed away. But we read here that there is a need for a baptism of the Spirit before entrance into heaven is granted. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the action of god placing His Spirit into our lives as we give our lives to be filled with His Holy (pure) Presence.

Saturday - Faith - John 5:24 Jesus wanted it to be known that if we listen to the good news and have faith in Him have made the big transition from death to life, from darkness to light. This good news is the message that was to be shared so that those who hear and believe and have eternal life without condemnation. Have faith in God's plan of salvation and you will be blessed with eternal life with an eternal home with Him.
